نشرت التدريسية رسل نعمة كمال من كلية الاداب والعلوم الانسانية مقالا بعنوان(Six Benefits of Learning Another Language) وذلك بتاريخ 20/2/2024.

Six Benefits of Learning Another Language
Written By : Assist Lect. Rusul Niema Baiee
Al_Mustaqbal University
College of Arts and Human Sciences
[email protected]

Interaction between people of different languages, nationalities, and backgrounds is more common than ever in today's fast-paced and technologically advanced society. Text messaging has made it possible to communicate in minutes instead of weeks, as opposed to the previous method of writing letters.
This implies that learning a second language could be a wonderful starting point if you wish to stay up to date with the modern world. Acquiring a second language might not only yield several personal advantages, but it can also significantly influence your interactions with those in your vicinity. There's no denying that learning a second language has many advantages if you want to lead a more informed, culturally aware, and charitable life.
1. Boost Brain Power
As you may already be aware, studying a second language sharpens one's intellect. A language has its own unique collection of complex lexis, structures, and laws. It is via navigating these structures that your brain learns to adapt to new patterns and handle complexity. Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities are developed when you persevere in speaking the language and try to communicate.
2. Improve Memory
Similar to a muscle, your brain gets stronger with continued use. Learning a language makes you work harder to retain the information and use it when necessary. It also forces you to get familiar with vocabulary and rules. This could be the reason bilinguals are better at remembering names, shopping lists, and directions, according to studies. As you exercise your brain, your memory gets stronger as well.
3. Build Multitasking Skills
Your brain must continually flip between two speaking, writing, and structural systems when learning a second language. You open one file cabinet at a time, then the other, and so on. Due to their ability to move between structures with ease, multilingual speakers are good multitaskers, according to a Pennsylvania State University study. You may find that when you pick up a new language, your multitasking abilities get better.

4. Impress Employers
Learning a second language is one method to stand out in the job market. Due to their capacity to communicate in a variety of employment marketplaces, bilingual employees are highly sought after. Learning a second language can greatly boost your chances of getting a call back because employers value bilingualism as a skill set. Not to mention, picking up a new language demonstrates your commitment to learning and desire to acquire new abilities.
5. Gain a New Perspective
Gaining proficiency in a second language increases your chances of absorbing information from many sources. For example, visit a nation where the language is spoken and get some practice. Alternatively, read books and watch TV in the language. Alternatively, see if any of your neighbors know someone who speaks the language. You can learn fresh and varied perspectives on life from all of these contacts, which can improve your emotional health.
6. Meet More People
Speaking a second language gives you the chance to interact with even more people! Get to know the people who speak the language around you, volunteer for a group that promotes the language, assist those who are native speakers in learning your language, and so on. You can meet and positively impact a wider range of individuals by learning a second language. Chances to live a more selfless life are presented by this.
