The veterinarian plays a pivotal role in promoting community health by monitoring animal health and reducing the transmission of zoonotic diseases. They contribute to the early detection of animal epidemics such as avian influenza and foot-and-mouth disease, thus helping to protect public health. They also ensure food safety by inspecting meat, milk, and animal products, verifying their freedom from pathogenic contaminants. Veterinarians participate in vaccination campaigns and disease control initiatives that could affect livestock and the national economy. They also play a role in educating farmers and animal owners about proper breeding practices and infection prevention. Their duties include monitoring wild and domestic animals to limit the spread of new diseases. They contribute to environmental protection by regulating the use of veterinary drugs and preventing their harmful effects. They also support scientific research related to animal diseases and antibiotic resistance. Ultimately, the veterinarian represents the first line of defense against animal diseases that may threaten humans, making them an essential element of the One Health system.
