The Rehabilitation, Employment, and Follow-up Unit at the Deanship of the College of Engineering organized a specialized scientific seminar titled “The Journey of Crude Oil Inside the Refinery: The Secrets of Petroleum Products Separation.” The seminar was held in one of the laboratories of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Industries, aiming to enhance students’ applied knowledge and link theoretical concepts with practical applications in petroleum industries, thereby contributing to preparing engineering graduates capable of meeting labor market demands.
The seminar provided a detailed explanation of the pathway of crude oil inside petroleum refineries, starting from extraction and transportation stages, through refining processes, highlighting the types of atmospheric and vacuum distillation and clarifying the technical differences between them, and concluding with the final separation stages and distribution of petroleum products along with their various industrial and service applications. The seminar also reviewed the working mechanism of the distillation column and its central role in separating petroleum derivatives based on different boiling points, emphasizing the importance of these processes in maximizing production efficiency and improving the quality of petroleum outputs.
This activity comes within the College of Engineering’s commitment to strengthening students’ practical and applied skills, enhancing their exposure to modern technologies in the petroleum and energy sectors, and developing the scientific and professional competencies of students in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Industries, as well as individuals interested in this field.
The seminar was attended by the Dean of the College of Engineering, the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, the Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Industries, in addition to a number of faculty members and students. The seminar was held in one of the laboratories of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Industries at the College of Engineering during the current academic year.
