Prepared by: Asst. Lecturer Muayad Hassan Al-Hashimi Achieving gender equality is considered a fundamental pillar of the Sustainable Development Goals, as this goal seeks to promote justice and equal opportunities between men and women across all social, economic, and political spheres. Sustainable development emphasizes that equality is not merely a human right, but a decisive factor in building prosperous and stable societies. Within the framework of this goal, efforts are directed toward eliminating all forms of discrimination and gender-based violence, including early marriage, deprivation of education, and economic marginalization. It also includes empowering women by ensuring their effective participation in decision-making processes and achieving financial independence. This objective is not limited to empowering women alone; it also involves changing stereotypes and societal cultures that hinder the realization of equality. Through education, awareness, and the formulation of fair policies, an environment that supports equal opportunities for all can be fostered. Achieving gender equality is not an option, but a moral and civilizational necessity that contributes to sustainable development and social justice, making it a core essence of the Sustainable Development Goals.
