Modern Medicine and Public Health Improvement Biochemistry is one of the most important scientific disciplines linking chemistry with medical sciences, as it explains the molecular basis of vital reactions occurring in living organisms. The core of this science lies in studying the structure of biomolecules such as carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids, and understanding their functions and roles in regulating cellular processes. Biochemistry has contributed significantly to the advancement of modern medical diagnostic methods. Clinical laboratories depend on biochemical analyses to accurately identify disease markers. For example, measuring enzyme activity helps diagnose tissue damage, hormone analysis is used to detect endocrine disorders, and molecular tests assist in the early identification of genetic diseases. Moreover, biochemistry plays a fundamental role in pharmaceutical development. The design of modern drugs depends on understanding chemical reactions within the body and the mechanism of drug binding to cellular receptors. This knowledge has led to the development of more effective treatments with fewer side effects, as well as the emergence of personalized medicine based on each patient’s genetic and biochemical characteristics. The importance of biochemistry also extends to public health and nutrition, where it helps determine the body’s nutritional requirements and study the effects of nutrient deficiency or excess on health. This supports the development of awareness programs aimed at preventing chronic diseases such as diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular diseases. In conclusion, continuous progress in biochemistry enhances the ability of researchers and physicians to understand diseases at the molecular level and to develop more accurate diagnostic and therapeutic approaches, thereby improving healthcare quality and promoting community health.
