Al-Mustaqbal University has achieved a new academic milestone, adding to its record of success at both the local and international levels, following the election of two of its faculty members to the Sectoral Council for the Green Economy and Digital Economy affiliated with UNESCO. This achievement reflects the university’s advanced scientific standing and the high competence of its academic staff. Dr. Silwan Ubaid Waheed, Director of the Energy Research Center, was elected as Rapporteur of the Council, in recognition of his solid research expertise and outstanding contributions in the fields of sustainable energy and the green economy. In addition, Dr. Mohammed Mitham Ubaid, Head of the Scientific Affairs Division, was elected as a member of the Council, owing to his effective academic and administrative experience in supporting scientific research and enhancing digital transformation pathways. This achievement comes with the direct support of the University President, Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, and under the guidance of the Dean of the Technical Engineering College, Assistant Professor Dr. Azhar Mohsen Abd, within the framework of the university leadership’s commitment to empowering scientific competencies and strengthening their presence in international forums. This accomplishment represents an effective contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), and Goal 13 (Climate Action), through supporting policies and research related to the green economy and digital transformation. It is worth noting that UNESCO’s Green and Digital Economy Council focuses on developing visions and strategies that support sustainable development, enhancing integration between digital innovation and environmental protection, and building research and institutional capacities of Member States in line with global development priorities. This distinction reaffirms Al-Mustaqbal University’s commitment to supporting academic and research development pathways and strengthening its international presence in a way that serves society and keeps pace with contemporary global challenges.
