Awareness Seminar Report: “Combating Violence Against Women: Strategies and Empowerment Mechanisms” (In accordance with the pillars of the Iraqi National Strategy for Women 2026)

Under the patronage and personal attendance of the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Ahmed Roudhan Salman, the College of Education – Women’s Affairs Unit, in cooperation with the Women’s Affairs Division, organized an awareness seminar for first-year students in the Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences. The seminar was held on Thursday, 19/2/2026, at 9:00 a.m. in Hall (108) of the Humanities Building. Prepared and Presented by: The seminar was prepared and delivered by Lecturer Assistant Rola Saad Habib from the Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences. Seminar Themes and Pillars (Based on Official Directives): In embodiment of the directives of the Ministry of Higher Education, the seminar focused on the following strategic pillars and themes: 1. Pillar of Institutional Reform and Participation: • Organizing specialized seminars and lectures to combat violence against women and girls in all its forms. • Presenting specialized research and studies on negative phenomena (domestic violence, harassment, cyber blackmail, and drug abuse) and discussing scientific methods to address them. 2. Pillar of Protection and Prevention: • Conducting specialized workshops focusing on professional, administrative, and technical skills necessary for women. • Raising awareness of applicable laws, regulations, and systems related to women’s rights and duties, types of penalties, and the causes of violence. • Launching media awareness campaigns (posters and videos) aimed at promoting a culture of justice, digital empowerment, and technological inclusion. 3. Pillar of Social Development and Economic Empowerment: • Encouraging female students and staff members to pursue creativity and innovation in scientific and humanities disciplines. • Training on “soft skills” and public speaking to enhance self-confidence and emotional intelligence as protective tools against violence. • Reviewing successful international experiences in economic development legislation supporting women. Final Recommendations: The seminar concluded with a set of recommendations derived from the objectives of the National Strategy: 1. Adopting “combating violence” as a societal culture that begins within educational institutions and extends to the broader community. 2. Strengthening self-monitoring and legal awareness to reduce cyber blackmail and domestic abuse. 3. Continuing to organize workshops that develop leadership and professional skills among female students to ensure their effective participation in community development. Conclusion: The seminar concluded by emphasizing that combating violence is not merely a slogan, but an institutional and ethical commitment aimed at providing a safe educational and social environment. The College of Education remains a beacon of awareness and empowerment, in alignment with the state’s plans to advance the status of Iraqi women by 2026. #College_of_Education #Al_Mustaqbal_University
