Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Education, Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Roudhan Salman, the Head of the Women’s Affairs Unit at the College, Prof. Dr. Thanaa Bahaa Al-Deen Abdullah, delivered an awareness workshop on the issue of high dowries on Monday, February 23, at 10:00 a.m. at the College.
The workshop was attended by the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, Assistant Professor Ahmed Al-Jundi, the Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs, Assistant Lecturer Hussein Al-Shammari, as well as a number of faculty members and administrative staff.
The session addressed the concept of dowry in Islam in accordance with the Holy Qur’an and the noble Prophetic traditions. It also examined the causes behind the phenomenon of high dowries in our society and their negative effects, with particular focus on women’s delayed marriage. The discussion further explored possible solutions to this issue and presented appropriate recommendations.
The workshop witnessed active engagement, with participants contributing their views and perspectives on the topic.
This activity falls within the executive plan of the Iraqi National Strategy for Women 2026 (Axis Three, Paragraph 2). It also contributes to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education.
