Introduction Genetic hair loss, also known as androgenetic alopecia, is the most common form of hair loss in both men and women. It results from the interaction between genetic predisposition and hormonal factors, leading to gradual weakening and loss of hair follicles. Causes Genetic hair loss is primarily linked to hereditary factors and the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which affects sensitive hair follicles by shrinking their size and shortening the hair growth cycle. Aging, psychological stress, and poor nutrition may also accelerate its onset. Patterns of Hair Loss In men, genetic hair loss typically begins with a receding hairline and thinning at the crown. In women, it usually appears as diffuse thinning over the scalp without complete baldness. Treatment Options Available treatments include topical medications, low-level laser therapy, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, and hair transplantation in advanced cases. Conclusion Although there is no definitive cure for genetic hair loss, early diagnosis and appropriate treatment can slow its progression and improve hair appearance and quality of life.
