Under the patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, and under the direct supervision of the Dean of the College of Science, Assist. Prof. Dr. Furat Hamza Al-Sultani, a scientific workshop entitled:
“Biosafety for Female Laboratory Staff: Protecting Reproductive and Public Health”
was held and organized by the Women’s Affairs Division in cooperation with the Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Science / Department of Medical Biotechnology, with the participation of the Department of Natural Systems, on Saturday, 28/2/2026.
The workshop was presented by Asst. Lect. Najat Hamid Jassim and Asst. Lect. Sara Rahim Hamza, addressing key themes including the promotion of biosafety concepts, identification of biological and chemical hazards in laboratory environments, and clarification of their potential impacts on reproductive health. The workshop also emphasized personal preventive measures and emergency response mechanisms.
The workshop aimed to enhance preventive awareness among female staff, promote adherence to international professional standards, and empower women working in laboratory fields both scientifically and health-wise, contributing to the establishment of a safe working environment that supports public health and institutional sustainability.
The workshop witnessed positive engagement from attendees, with several discussions and questions that contributed to strengthening understanding of the importance of implementing biosafety procedures within laboratories.
This initiative comes within Al-Mustaqbal University’s commitment to organizing scientific and awareness activities that support a healthy and safe work environment and empower women in scientific and laboratory fields.
