The Deanship of the College of Engineering, represented by the Department of Biomedical Engineering, organized a scientific workshop on Monday, February 23, 2026, entitled: “Beyond Smartwatches… The Future of Wearable Biosensors,” in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), Goal 4 (Quality Education), and Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure). The workshop addressed the current state of smartwatches and medical wristbands and their role in monitoring vital signs and body activity. It also explored prospects for their advancement toward more sophisticated biological and chemical sensors capable of interacting with internal body indicators with greater precision. Furthermore, the material MXene was highlighted as one of the promising modern materials in the fabrication of biosensors, and key challenges facing engineers and researchers in this field were discussed. The Department of Biomedical Engineering hosted Engineer Hussein Dakhel Jassim to prepare and deliver the workshop, which witnessed distinguished scientific engagement from students and attendees. This reflects the College’s commitment to promoting academic openness and hosting specialized scientific expertise. University of Al-Mustaqbal – the first university in Iraq
