As part of its commitment to strengthening practical skills and enhancing laboratory competencies, the Department of Biochemistry organized a scientific workshop entitled “Phlebotomy Techniques” for its students. The workshop was supervised and delivered by Dr. Aseel Amer Hadi, Dr. Karrar Majeed Ubaid, and Asst. Lect. Haider Mutlaq Mousa. The workshop aimed to train students on the correct procedures for blood collection according to approved medical standards. It focused on laboratory safety and biosafety measures, proper handling of medical instruments, and the safe disposal of sharp medical waste. The session also included a detailed theoretical explanation of the different types of blood collection tubes, proper vein selection techniques, and common mistakes to avoid during the blood withdrawal process. The workshop featured a hands-on practical session, allowing students to apply their knowledge under the direct supervision of specialized instructors. This practical experience significantly enhanced their confidence and improved their laboratory efficiency in preparation for future work in medical laboratories and healthcare institutions. At the conclusion of the workshop, students expressed their appreciation for the valuable information and practical experience gained, emphasizing the importance of such scientific activities in supporting their academic and professional development.
