Collagen Synthesis and Tissue Remodeling

Collagen remodeling is a central mechanism in aesthetic treatments such as laser resurfacing, radiofrequency microneedling, and dermal fillers. Collagen synthesis requires sufficient protein intake, vitamin C availability, iron, zinc, and adequate metabolic energy. Ramadan fasting itself does not inherently suppress collagen production; however, poor dietary planning may result in reduced protein intake and micronutrient imbalance. Heavy carbohydrate-rich meals with low protein density—common in some Ramadan dietary patterns—may compromise tissue repair capacity. Furthermore, inadequate caloric distribution and excessive sugar intake may increase systemic inflammation, potentially influencing post-procedure erythema and recovery time. Clinicians should therefore emphasize balanced macronutrient intake during Ramadan, especially for patients undergoing collagen-stimulating treatments.
