The Department of biology at the University of Al-Mustaqbal organized a specialized workshop on Tuesday, March 10, 3036, entitled "Standard Techniques for Preparing Nutrient Agar Media". The workshop was delivered by Assistant Lecturer Ms. Zainab Nazem Aziz to third-year students, aiming to equip them with essential skills for preparing sterile laboratory growth media.
The workshop included a theoretical component discussing the composition and importance of nutrient media in supporting microbial and plant cultures. This was followed by a practical session covering precise calculations for determining required weights and proportions, dissolution and sterilization using an autoclave to ensure a contaminant-free environment, and techniques for pouring and solidifying the media in Petri dishes while minimizing airborne contamination.
Ms. Zainab Nazem Aziz emphasized that mastering the preparation of growth media represents a "cornerstone" in plant physiology experiments and biological research. She noted that the workshop aims to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and laboratory practice, preparing students to become competent researchers in the future.
Students actively engaged in the practical exercises, enhancing their ability to handle advanced laboratory requirements and reinforcing their practical competence in microbial and plant laboratory techniques.
