As part of its ongoing commitment to sustainable development issues, Al-Mustaqbal University, under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Magdy, celebrated World Water Day on March 22, 2026, through a collection of innovative events that highlighted the importance of freshwater and the priority of its prudent management. It is worth noting that the university’s name, “Al-Mustaqbal,” literally means “the future,” reflecting its forward-looking vision and approach to supporting sustainable development.
This year’s celebrations focused on the interrelated connection between water and gender equality, as the university adopted the theme of World Water Day 2026, which highlights the pivotal role of women and girls in facing water challenges and participating in decision-making related to water resources management.
The university launched a series of distinctive initiatives, including awareness campaigns for water conservation, an international conference specializing in environment and water, as well as a community initiative based on modern hydroponic techniques aimed at reducing water consumption and enhancing the preservation of natural resources.
The events also featured workshops and scientific seminars that focused on empowering women in the water sector and showcasing the latest innovations in water management and distribution, thereby promoting efficiency and serving the achievement of sustainable development goals, especially Goal 6 related to clean water and sanitation.
The celebrations shed light on the environmental and social challenges associated with water scarcity in the context of climate change, emphasizing the importance of taking practical solutions to ensure the sustainability of water resources as a basic right for all.
A large number of students, local community members, and representatives of the agricultural sector participated in the events, which included both in-person and virtual activities, in addition to awareness campaigns on social media platforms under the hashtag WorldWaterDay, aiming to promote positive behaviors for water conservation.
These activities reflect Al-Mustaqbal University’s commitment to supporting sustainability and enhancing environmental awareness, and affirm its pioneering role in serving the community through practical initiatives that keep pace with contemporary environmental challenges and support the protection of natural resources for future generations.
