Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, the university hosted a specialized virtual workshop to commemorate World Water Day 2026. Titled "From Awareness to Empowerment: The Role of Women in Achieving Water Resource Sustainability," the event aligns with the United Nations' current focus on gender equality in water management to support Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6): Clean Water and Sanitation for all by 2030. Key Highlights of the Workshop: Academic Leadership: In his opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi emphasized the importance of utilizing global observances to instill sound environmental practices. He called for aligning scientific research, graduation projects, and case studies toward addressing water scarcity and promoting rational consumption. Water Security Challenges: Professor Dr. Mudhaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairy, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision, highlighted that water is the fundamental pillar for social, food, and environmental security. He noted that climate change and rapid population growth necessitate rigorous scientific analysis to find sustainable management solutions. Innovation & Smart Campus Initiatives: The workshop showcased Al-Mustaqbal University’s practical commitment to sustainability, including: Integration of smart sensors in water infrastructure. Expert Contributions: The session featured scientific presentations by a panel of experts, including Prof. Dr. Tariq Jawad, Dr. Mahdi Shanshal, Prof. Dr. Iman Aziz, and Eng. Khalid Kadhim Al-Salihi.
