the Department of Dialysis Kidney Techniques at the College of Health and Medical Techniques – Al-Mustaqbal University, in cooperation with the Women’s Affairs Division, organized an online scientific lecture entitled:
“Extreme Climate and Vulnerable Kidneys: How Do Climate Changes Increase the Burden of Kidney Diseases? And What Is the Role of Women in Addressing This Silent Challenge?”
The lecture was held on Thursday, March 26, 2026, and was delivered by Professor Younis Abdul Redha Al-Khafaji, Head of the Department of Dialysis Kidney Techniques .
In pursuit of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being, Goal 5: Gender Equality, and Goal 13: Climate Action, the lecture addressed the impact of climate change, weather variability, and water scarcity on kidney health.
It also explored the concept of climate extremes, including rising temperatures, drought, water scarcity, and desertification, and the resulting health risks especially those affecting kidney function
Furthermore, the lecture highlighted the vital role of women, as they represent the first line of response in confronting the challenges posed by climate change and its repercussions on human health in general, and kidney health in particular.
The lecture aimed to raise students’ awareness and enhance their knowledge regarding the effects of climate variability, water scarcity, and desertification, in addition to emphasizing the pivotal role of women in addressing these challenges and mitigating their impacts.
This lecture falls within the framework of supporting student development, fostering awareness, and preparing a conscious generation capable of effectively responding to the climate challenges facing the country.
