Online Workshop: Sustainable Associated Gas Investment in Southern Iraq.

The Department of Fuel and Energy Techniques Engineering organized a scientific workshop (via cyberspace) titled "Associated Gas Flaring in Southern Iraqi Oil Fields: From Energy Waste to Sustainable Solutions," on Wednesday, March 26, 2026, prepared and presented by the lecturer Ms. Shahad Mahmood Mohammed. The workshop addressed a technical review of the reality of oil fields in southern Iraq, highlighting the technical drivers of gas flaring operations and their severe environmental and economic consequences, while proposing strategic solutions to enhance infrastructure and utilize gas for electricity generation. The researcher emphasized that these solutions come in response to the requirements of Goal 7 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which aims to ensure access to "affordable and clean energy," as well as reducing harmful emissions to serve climate action. The workshop concluded with the necessity of adopting national policies that transform this waste into a sustainable economic resource that supports the pillars of the national economy.Relevant Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy.
