Under the patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, the Department of Archaeology organized a specialized scientific workshop entitled “Water and Its Impact on Ancient Iraqi Thought.” The workshop was delivered by Dr. Angham Salim Mohammed, and attended by a number of faculty members and students 28/3/2026. The workshop explored the civilizational and intellectual dimensions of water in Mesopotamian civilization, highlighting the central role played by the Tigris River and the Euphrates River in shaping the intellectual and religious structures of ancient societies. The lecturer explained that water was not merely an economic resource for irrigation and agriculture, but also a fundamental symbol of life and growth, strongly reflected in literary texts and legal systems that distinguished the civilizations of Babylon, Ur, and Sumer. The workshop also addressed several key themes, including the mythological dimension represented in the embodiment of water within ancient religious beliefs, the social and legal aspects concerning the regulation and protection of water resources, and the environmental dimension focusing on how ancient Iraqis adapted to fluctuations in water availability. The workshop concluded with an open discussion session, where faculty members and students enriched the dialogue with analytical perspectives linking this rich intellectual heritage to contemporary water challenges. The Deanship of the College of Arts and Humanities affirmed its continued support for such academic activities that enhance archaeological awareness and highlight Iraq’s deep-rooted civilization. #Al-Mustaqbal University Ranked First Among Private Universities in Iraq
