Food security represents one of the most significant challenges facing humanity today, as it is directly linked to the ability of ecosystems to produce food sustainably and ensure its availability for all individuals without harming the environment. Sustainable food security relies on understanding the relationship between biodiversity, soil fertility, water resource management, and sustainable agricultural practices. Biodiversity contributes to improving agricultural production, as the presence of a variety of plants and animals ensures sustainable food supply and enhances the ability of crops to resist diseases, pests, and climatic changes. Genetic diversity within crops also helps improve productivity and food quality. Soil plays a central role in food security, providing essential nutrients for plants. Sustainable agricultural practices, such as crop rotation, the use of organic fertilizers, and reducing excessive tillage, help maintain soil fertility and prevent its degradation. Water is also a crucial element in food production, as food security depends on effective management of water resources. Sustainability strategies include drip irrigation, rainwater harvesting, and the use of modern technologies to reduce waste and improve water-use efficiency. Sustainable biological food security also helps reduce reliance on harmful chemicals such as pesticides and synthetic fertilizers, which negatively affect human health and biodiversity in the surrounding environment. This approach also emphasizes promoting organic farming, preserving native plants, and utilizing natural resources in a balanced manner, enhancing the community’s ability to rely on locally produced, sustainable, and renewable food sources. Healthy and balanced ecosystems play a key role in food security, ensuring natural pollination of plants, pest regulation, and the preservation of soil and water. Any deterioration in these systems may lead to food shortages and increased risks to food security. Achieving sustainable food security requires the cooperation of governments, research institutions, farmers, and civil society to ensure the implementation of sustainable practices, the development of agricultural policies that support biological production, and the protection of resources for future generations. In conclusion, food security from a sustainable biological perspective represents an integrated model that combines environmental protection, food production, public health enhancement, and sustainable management of natural resources, ensuring the survival of humans and the balance of ecosystems.
