Under the patronage of the esteemed President of Al-Mustaqbal University and the supervision of the respected Dean of the College of Administrative Sciences, the Department of Financial and Banking Sciences organized a specialized scientific workshop on Monday, April 6, 2026, entitled "National Duties in the Face of Water Scarcity: Towards Sustainable Development," with active participation from the college's faculty members and students. The workshop featured presentations by Assistant Professors Ali Hassan Kassar and Ghadeer Haider, who delivered scholarly discussions highlighting the importance of raising awareness of national duties as a fundamental pillar to confront environmental challenges, foremost among them the ongoing water scarcity in the region. They emphasized the role of both individuals and institutions in mitigating its impacts. The workshop focused on a set of vital objectives, including highlighting shared responsibilities in preserving water resources, promoting conscious behaviors to rationalize consumption and reduce waste, and strengthening the link between sound water management and the requirements for achieving sustainable development. In-depth scientific discussions addressed the major challenges facing Iraq due to the noticeable decline in water resources, stressing the importance of integrating efforts between governmental and community institutions to implement effective solutions for the efficient management of this vital resource. The event also included valuable contributions from attendees, reflecting the growing awareness of environmental issues within the academic community and its commitment to actively addressing them. The workshop concluded with a series of key recommendations, most notably: Establishing an environmental culture and raising awareness of the importance of water preservation as a national duty. Developing a sense of societal responsibility to reduce water depletion. Supporting and directing scientific research towards innovative solutions to tackle drought challenges.
