The Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Committee in the Department of Quranic Sciences and Islamic Education – College of Education organized a scientific seminar entitled “Student Absenteeism: Causes, Effects, and Ways to Address It.” The seminar was presented by Assistant Lecturer Shadan Salah Abd, Head of the Committee, with the attendance of Assistant Lecturer Noor Saad Mushab, a committee member, and Ms. Samah Abbas, alongside active participation from students. The seminar was held on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at the Department of Quranic Sciences and Islamic Education. It witnessed notable engagement, beginning with an overview of the importance of the topic, as student absenteeism is considered a phenomenon that directly affects the quality of the educational process and its outcomes. The seminar addressed the main causes of absenteeism, classifying them into psychological and personal, academic, familial and social, as well as organizational and administrative factors, while highlighting their impact on students’ behavior and level of commitment. It also reviewed the negative consequences of absenteeism, including a decline in academic achievement, its impact on students’ psychological well-being and social behavior, as well as its effect on discipline and the overall quality of educational outcomes. In the treatment section, a number of practical solutions and recommendations were presented, including enhancing students’ motivation to learn, activating the role of psychological and educational counseling, improving the learning environment, implementing accurate attendance monitoring systems, and strengthening cooperation between families and educational institutions. The seminar concluded by emphasizing the importance of joint efforts among all concerned parties to address student absenteeism, contributing to the creation of a supportive and motivating educational environment capable of achieving academic and educational goals efficiently. #College_of_Education #Al-Mustaqbal_University
