Holding the Prosthetics Assembly Hackathon at Al-Mustaqbal University as Part of Sustainability Week

As part of the Fourth International Future Sustainability Week, the College of Engineering at Al-Mustaqbal University organized the “Prosthetics Assembly Hackathon,” with the participation of department students in collaboration with students from Al-Kufa Technical Institute – Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University. The event aimed to promote innovation and develop practical skills in the field of prosthetics, in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals. The event was held under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Engineering, Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Shaker Majdi, and in the presence of the University President, along with several distinguished guests, including Assistant Professor Kazem Khayoun Kahloul, Assistant Dean of Al-Kufa Technical Institute for Administrative Affairs, and Engineer Munir Naji Waheed, Head of the Department of Prosthetics and Orthotics Techniques at the institute. The judging committee included Professor Dr. Mohammed Hamza Dahham, Assistant Professor Dr. Firas Thaer Raouf, Assistant Lecturer Muntadhar Saleh Mahdi, and Engineer Aya Talib Hassan from the department staff, in addition to Engineer Hussein Dhamir Hussein and Engineer Mohammed Kazem Taher from the Najaf Health Directorate. This hackathon supports several Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by contributing to improving the quality of life for individuals with limb loss, Goal 4 (Quality Education) through enhancing applied learning and practical skills, Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) by encouraging engineering innovation, and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through collaboration between academic and health institutions. Students competed in assembling prosthetic limbs in an enthusiastic and collaborative atmosphere that reflected strong teamwork. The participating teams were evaluated based on accuracy, speed of performance, and team spirit. At the conclusion of the event, the winning team was announced, and all participating teams were honored in recognition of their outstanding efforts and active participation, reaffirming the university’s commitment to supporting student talents and encouraging creativity and excellence in line with sustainable development objectives.
