The Department of Communications Engineering Technologies presented a case study titled “Improving the Efficiency of Communication Networks and Reducing Energy Consumption” as part of the Fourth Future Sustainability Week, held at Al-Mustaqbal University, the leading private university in Iraq, under the supervision of Dr. Noor Abdul Kareem Mohammed Ali. The study aimed to analyze the current state of energy consumption in communication networks and identify the main factors contributing to its increase, while highlighting the importance of adopting modern technologies and smart solutions to reduce waste and enhance operational efficiency, thereby supporting a more sustainable academic environment. The study addressed several key aspects, including the evaluation of equipment and infrastructure efficiency, the role of data centers, and the impact of increasing digital technology usage on energy consumption, along with discussing ways to improve network performance. The findings indicated a good level of student awareness regarding energy conservation, alongside the need to strengthen the implementation of sustainable practices within educational institutions through the adoption of modern, eco-friendly strategies and technologies. This activity comes as part of Al-Mustaqbal University’s efforts to support scientific research and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), contributing to improved network efficiency and reduced energy consumption.
