Organized the Department of Communications Engineering Techniques a scientific case study titled “Reducing Paper Consumption and Promoting Digital Transformation in Educational Institutions” on April 13 at Al-Mustaqbal University, the first among private universities in Iraq, under the supervision of Dr. Noor Abdul Karim Mohammed Ali, with the participation of a number of students and individuals interested in academic and environmental affairs.
This study came in response to the urgent need to address environmental challenges and reduce resource waste. It focused on the reality of paper usage within educational institutions and its environmental and economic impacts. A field survey and data analysis were adopted to measure consumption levels and identify the main obstacles to digital transformation.
The results showed that a large percentage of students still rely on paper for academic activities, alongside a moderate level of awareness regarding the importance of digital transformation. It also revealed challenges such as weak digital infrastructure and limited awareness of electronic alternatives.
The study aimed to provide practical solutions to reduce paper consumption by promoting the use of digital platforms and e-learning, spreading a culture of sustainability among students and teaching staff, and recommending support for digital transformation through the development of electronic systems and the provision of a modern learning environment.
This initiative aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), reinforcing the role of educational institutions in environmental protection and optimal resource utilization.
