Dr. Riyad Abdel Abbas Ali

What is green concrete?

It is a concept that expresses the use of environmentally friendly materials in the manufacture of concrete, to make it durable for a longer period.

What are the advantages of green concrete?

1- Made from waste and recycled materials such as fly ash, GGBS (Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag, Artificial Aggregate).

2- Reducing carbon dioxide emissions in concrete manufacturing by 30%.
3- Increase the use of concrete waste by 20%.
4- It does not pollute the environment and maintains sustainable development.
5- Green concrete requires less maintenance and repairs.
6- Its workability is better than traditional concrete.
7- Good heat resistance and fire resistance.
8- The compressive strength with water cement ratio is similar to traditional concrete.
9- The flexural strength of green concrete is almost equal to the strength of traditional concrete.

10- The use of concrete in the construction industry is increasing at a faster rate.

Green concrete applications:

1- It is used in building bridges.

2- It is widely used in building construction.

3- They are used in building pillars.

4- It can be used in road construction.

◀️ The goal of this study is to avoid pollution and reuse materials again. Therefore, green concrete is considered an excellent alternative to cement, as it is cheaper in terms of cost. It uses waste products, saving energy consumed in production, and above all, green concrete has greater resistance and durability than regular concrete.
