Today, January 22, 2025, the lecturers, Hanin Fadhel Kazim, Raghda Ali Nasser, Fatima Muslim Hadi, organized an awareness activity entitled “Climate Change”, in the presence of the first-year evening study students in the Department of Building and Construction Engineering Technology at the College of Engineering - Al-Mustaqbal University.
Sustainable road design involves several principles aimed at minimizing environmental impact while balancing comfort, safety, and economic and social benefits. It includes practices and techniques that help conserve natural resources and reduce pollution. Key elements of sustainable road design include:
Use of Sustainable Materials: Using recycled or recyclable construction materials, such as recycled asphalt or concrete with low environmental impact components.
Environmental Design: Roads should be designed to fit within the natural environment, minimizing the impact on local ecosystems. This includes considering wildlife corridors and protecting vegetation.
Energy Efficiency: Designing roads with features that reduce energy consumption, such as gentle slopes to reduce fuel consumption in vehicles.
Sustainable Drainage Systems: Implementing stormwater management systems that improve water runoff control and reduce flooding. This can include using permeable pavement or limiting impermeable surfaces.
Green Infrastructure: Adding green elements, such as trees along the road, to provide shade, reduce local temperatures, and improve air quality.
Sustainable Mobility: Providing infrastructure that encourages sustainable transportation modes like walking, cycling, and electric vehicle charging stations.
Monitoring and Maintenance: Developing roads that are easy to monitor and maintain over time, using diagnostic technologies to identify problems before they become major issues.
These principles work together to create roads that reduce negative environmental impacts, promote sustainability, and improve the quality of life for surrounding communities.
#The_First_University_in_Iraq
