Today, Saturday, January 25, 2025, the teaching staff, Lecturer Sally Silan Hussein, Lecturer Mariam Muhammad Musa, and Lecturer Benin Muhammad Hilal, organized an awareness-raising activity entitled “Draining rainwater is a step towards developing infrastructure,” in the presence of the first-year students in the department. Building and construction technology engineering at the Faculty of Engineering - Future University.
Rainwater drainage is a crucial step in developing infrastructure and is an essential part of water management in urban areas. When rainwater is effectively drained, it helps prevent various issues such as flooding, road deterioration, and water quality degradation. Here are some benefits of rainwater drainage in infrastructure development:
Flood Prevention: Developing effective drainage systems can reduce the risk of flooding caused by rainwater accumulation in streets or residential areas.
Improved Public Safety: Proper rainwater drainage helps reduce the risks associated with water buildup on roads, contributing to fewer traffic accidents and smoother transportation.
Preservation of Infrastructure: Preventing water from collecting in inappropriate areas protects roads, bridges, and buildings from erosion and damage caused by accumulated water.
Improved Public Health: Proper drainage reduces the chances of forming ponds and swamps that can become breeding grounds for waterborne diseases like malaria or cholera.
Rainwater Reuse: Some modern systems capture rainwater for other uses, such as irrigation or street cleaning, helping conserve water resources.
Environmental Sustainability: Proper drainage systems also provide a way to direct water to areas where it can be reused or assist in replenishing groundwater, promoting sustainable development.
Ultimately, improving rainwater drainage systems is part of building integrated infrastructure that enhances urban life quality and strengthens communities' ability to adapt to climate change and environmental challenges.
#The_First_University_in_Iraq
