On Monday, January 27, 2025, the department’s rapporteur, Dr. Barq Ali Abdel Hadi, organized an awareness-raising activity entitled “Water scarcity in Iraq and what are the methods of treatment,” in the presence of students of the first stage of evening studies in the Department of Building and Construction Technology Engineering at the College of Engineering - Future University.
Water scarcity in Iraq is a major challenge due to several factors:
Climate Change: Reduced rainfall and rising temperatures contribute to diminishing water reserves in rivers and lakes.
Population Growth: The increasing population raises the demand for fresh water.
Poor Water Management: Weak management of water resources, including inefficient distribution systems and lack of proper water conservation practices.
Pollution: Industrial and agricultural pollution in rivers and lakes reduces the availability of clean water.
Solutions for Addressing Water Scarcity:
Improved Water Resource Management: This involves establishing effective monitoring systems and equitable water distribution, alongside updating water infrastructure.
Water Recycling: Promoting the reuse of treated wastewater for agriculture and industry to reduce the pressure on natural water sources.
Rainwater Harvesting Programs: Constructing dams and reservoirs to store rainwater, helping to provide water during dry periods.
Desalination: Using seawater or brackish water desalination technologies to provide new sources of water.
Awareness and Education: Raising public awareness about the importance of water conservation and minimizing waste.
Modern Irrigation Techniques: Adopting efficient irrigation methods, such as drip irrigation, to optimize water use in agriculture.
Regional and International Cooperation: Collaborating with countries sharing the Tigris and Euphrates basins to ensure fair water distribution and equitable access to water resources.
#The_First_University_in_Iraq
