Under the supervision of the Head of the Department of Building and Construction Technologies Engineering, Dr. Mayada Wahid Falah, and in alignment with the sixth goal of sustainable development (Clean Water and Sanitation), Lecturer M.M. Mohammed Jawad and Lecturer M.M. Tamar Maytham Abdulwahab organized an awareness campaign titled "How to Purify Water at Al-Musayyib Gas Power Plant."<br /><br />At Al-Musayyib Gas Power Plant, water purification is an essential process to ensure the efficient operation of turbines and to reduce damage caused by impurities. Water is used in various applications, such as cooling equipment, steam generation, and system cleaning, so it must be pure and free from harmful minerals and contaminants.<br /><br />Water Purification Stages in the Plant:<br />🔹 Pre-Treatment:<br /><br />Removing large impurities such as sand and dust using sand and mesh filters.<br />🔹 Chemical Treatment:<br /><br />Adding chemicals like chlorine to eliminate bacteria and using coagulants to help sediment fine impurities.<br />🔹 Reverse Osmosis (RO):<br /><br />An advanced technique that uses special membranes to remove dissolved salts and minerals, ensuring the water is fully purified before being used in boilers.<br />🔹 Deaeration:<br /><br />Reducing the concentration of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the water to prevent corrosion inside pipes and equipment.<br />🔹 Ion Exchange:<br /><br />A system that removes unwanted ions such as calcium and magnesium to prevent the formation of lime scale deposits inside the systems.<br />🔹 Quality Monitoring:<br /><br />Water is regularly tested using advanced analysis devices to ensure compliance with required standards.<br />Importance of Water Purification in the Plant:<br />✅ Enhances turbine efficiency and reduces fuel consumption.<br />✅ Reduces corrosion and scaling inside pipes and boilers.<br />✅ Lowers harmful environmental emissions from fuel combustion.<br />✅ Extends equipment lifespan and minimizes maintenance costs.<br /><br />Conclusion:<br />Water purification at Al-Musayyib Gas Power Plant relies on advanced technologies to ensure the highest quality of water used, directly impacting the efficiency and sustainability of the plant.
