Al-Mustaqbal University Hosts the Third Edition of Sustainability Week with Active Local and International Participation

Under the esteemed patronage of Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, and with exceptional organization and direct supervision by Professor Dr. Azher Mohsen Abd, Dean of the College of Engineering and Engineering Technologies, the third edition of the International Future Sustainability Week Festival 2025 commenced this morning at Al-Mustaqbal University. The event unfolded amidst a celebratory atmosphere and witnessed extensive academic and official attendance from within Iraq and abroad.<br />The festival's opening was marked by excellent organization and a spirit of collaboration among the university's various colleges and departments. The first day featured the inauguration of the First International Conference on Modern Technologies and Their Applications in Sustainable Education, alongside the opening of several scientific exhibitions. These exhibitions showcased initiatives by the university's students, faculty, and researchers, presenting scientific and technological projects that serve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).<br />The opening ceremony was graced by prominent figures, including the representative of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, President of the University of Babylon, Professor Dr. Amin Al-Yasiri; Governor of Babylon, Mr. Adnan Fayhan Al-Dulaimi; Chairman of the Babylon Provincial Council, Mr. Asaad Al-Muslawi; and a delegation from Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University in Turkey, led by Professor Dr. Kenan Ahmed. Additionally, several university presidents, college deans, specialists, and researchers from various fields attended the event.<br />In his speech, the Governor of Babylon expressed his pride in Al-Mustaqbal University and its pioneering role in serving the community and enhancing the quality of education. Professor Dr. Amin Al-Yasiri conveyed the greetings of the Minister of Higher Education and extended his best wishes for the continued success of the conference and festival.<br />Professor Dr. Muzafar Sadiq Al-Zuhairi, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision, delivered the opening address on behalf of the university president. He highlighted that this edition of the festival coincides with the fifteenth anniversary of the founding of Al-Mustaqbal College and the first anniversary of its transition to Al-Mustaqbal University. He emphasized the university's commitment to embodying its motto, "Towards a Sustainable University," as a tangible reality.<br />Dr. Al-Zuhairi also shed light on the importance of artificial intelligence in achieving digital transformation, noting the establishment of the Artificial Intelligence Center at the university last year. This initiative has solidified the university's position as a leader in this field. He further mentioned the integration of sustainability concepts into the academic curricula and the increase in research related to the SDGs, which now constitutes over 65% of the university's total research output.<br />The first day concluded with enriching panel discussions. The first session explored international experiences in sustainable education, featuring participation from the delegation of Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University and moderated by Professor Dr. Tareq Jawad, Director of the Scientific Affairs Department. The second session focused on the role of universities in achieving the fourth SDG (Quality Education), with contributions from Professor Dr. Faten Al-Qazzaz, Scientific Assistant to the President of Al-Mustansiriya University; Ms. Nahida Ahmed Abdul-Jabbar, an expert in the Human Development Department; and directors from the Education and Training Policies Department at the Ministry of Planning. This session was moderated by Professor Dr. Muzafar Al-Zuhairi, who presented success stories and initiatives launched by Al-Mustaqbal University in this domain.<br />Al-Mustaqbal University actively contributes to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 4: "Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all."<br />Affirming its leadership, Al-Mustaqbal University is considered the foremost university in Iraq in terms of academic excellence, institutional innovation, and alignment with sustainable development requirements both locally and internationally.<br /><br />
