Introduction

Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is one of the key drivers of economic growth, innovation, and employment. The investment climate is influenced by various factors, most notably the stability of international relations and the degree of a country's openness to the global economy. In this context, Iran and Israel present two contrasting examples in the Middle East: while Iran suffers from international isolation and severe economic sanctions, Israel maintains strong international relations that support a dynamic and developed investment environment.

First: The Impact of International Sanctions on Investment in Iran

Iran has been facing economic sanctions for decades, imposed by the United States and the European Union, affecting sectors such as energy, banking, aviation, and technology. The most significant impacts include:

Reluctance of global companies to enter the Iranian market due to fear of secondary sanctions.

Difficulty in transferring funds, which hinders investment and financing operations.

Lack of access to technology and expertise due to bans on the export of equipment and software.

Economic instability, with high inflation rates and depreciation of the local currency, increasing investment risks.

Despite some governmental efforts to attract foreign capital through investment incentive laws, international isolation has limited their effectiveness.

Second: International Relations Supporting Investment in Israel

Israel enjoys strong relations with the West, particularly the United States and the European Union, and has recently strengthened its economic ties with several Arab countries. Key factors that make Israel an attractive destination for investment include:

A relatively stable political environment with a legal system that protects investors' rights.

Advanced infrastructure, especially in the technology and telecommunications sectors.

Broad international partnerships that support research and innovation projects.

Easy access to global markets through trade agreements.

According to international reports, Israel is among the top destinations for investment in advanced technology and entrepreneurship.

Conclusion

The comparison between Iran and Israel highlights the importance of international relations in shaping an attractive business environment. While sanctions hinder Iran’s ability to benefit from foreign investments, Israel leverages its supportive international network to enhance its economy and innovation. This suggests that countries should adopt balanced foreign policies and implement internal reforms to create a secure and investment-friendly climate.

"AL_mustaqbal University is the first university in Iraq"

al-mustaqbal University Website
