Under the patronage of the respected President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, and within the framework of its commitment to supporting national development plans and enhancing its partnerships with state institutions, Al-Mustaqbal University organized a specialized training course in the field of sustainable development for the employees of the Babylon Governorate Office – Department of Development and Sustainable Development. This comes as part of the training programs adopted by the university to strengthen the capacities of government institution staff in areas of community service and sustainable development.<br /><br />In his speech, Al-Zuheiri emphasized that organizing this course falls within the ongoing successes achieved by Al-Mustaqbal University, pointing to the remarkable achievement the university made in the 2025 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings. The university ranked first globally in achieving Sustainable Development Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), in addition to being placed in the 201–300 category worldwide among more than 2,500 universities representing 130 countries around the world — an unprecedented achievement for an Iraqi university, reinforcing its position among the world’s leading institutions in this field.<br /><br />The course runs from July 1 to July 3, 2025, and the first day began with a lecture presented by Engineer Khalid Kadhim Hassan Al-Salhi, Director of the Sustainable Development Division at the university. He expressed his happiness in organizing this course, especially as it is directed at the staff of a newly established department in the Governorate Office, formed based on recommendations from one of the sessions of the Subcommittee on Sustainable Development previously hosted by Al-Mustaqbal University.<br /><br />The first day of the course introduced the fundamental concepts of sustainable development, highlighting its economic, social, and environmental dimensions, as well as the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a global performance standard for institutions. The session also featured successful local and international case studies aimed at raising awareness and facilitating the exchange of experiences to enhance institutional work in government departments.<br /><br />At the conclusion of the first day, participants expressed their gratitude and appreciation to the presidency of Al-Mustaqbal University, valuing its efforts in offering high-quality programs that contribute to developing their skills in alignment with Iraq’s Vision 2030 and comprehensive local development plans.
