Industrial designs are registered with the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control (COSQC) under the provisions of the Iraqi Patent and Industrial Design Law No. (65) of 1970, as amended. A design is considered industrially applicable, and it is preferred that the design be submitted along with a technical report.
The application must include a precisely detailed engineering drawing with mechanical dimensions, submitted in four copies, along with payment of the required registration fees and fulfillment of all conditions necessary for the issuance of the industrial design certificate.
Once these requirements are met, approval for registration of the industrial design is granted.
Holding an industrial design certificate can be beneficial for:
• Annual academic evaluations
• Researcher academic promotion
• Marketing the product both domestically and internationally, through exhibitions, conferences, or global innovation platforms.
Below is a sample of a Certificate of Industrial Design Registration for a device designed to enhance visual perception in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), through the use of a lens that improves visual connectivity.
Introduction to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)
The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) was established in 1970, and became a specialized agency of the United Nations in 1974, with headquarters in Geneva. Industrial Property, which includes:
o Patents
o Industrial designs
o Trademarks
o Integrated circuits (electrical and electronic circuit layouts), among others.
2.
