Environmental sustainability is a fundamental pillar of long-term development plans, as economic and social growth cannot be envisioned without preserving natural resources and protecting ecosystems. The relationship between humans and the environment has become more complex in light of contemporary challenges such as climate change, biodiversity degradation, and water and air pollution.

Environmental sustainability aims to ensure that environmental resources are used in a way that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. This includes the rational management of water, energy, land, forests, and marine resources, as well as reducing carbon emissions and pollution.

Integrating sustainability into education, health, agriculture, and energy policies has become a necessity, not an option. Collaboration between governments, the private sector, educational institutions, and civil society is crucial in this process. True development is not measured solely by growth rates, but rather by its ability to achieve a balance between humans and the environment.

Investing in environmental sustainability is not an option, but a necessity to ensure the continuation of life on planet Earth. This requires effective cooperation between governments, institutions, and individuals to build a healthier and safer future for our coming generations, as protecting the environment is a collective responsibility that requires us all to work with all seriousness and sincerity.

Al-Mustaqbal University is the first university in Iraq.
