Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, and the supervision of Professor Dr. Ammar Abbas Al-Husseini, Dean of the College of Law, the College of Law, in cooperation with the Directorate of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Affairs, organized an awareness seminar entitled “Combating the Phenomenon of Drug Abuse” on December 2, 2024, held at the College’s conference hall.<br />The seminar was presented by Brigadier General Haider Hassoun, Director of Narcotics Affairs, Colonel (Legal Expert) Ahmed Abdul Ghafour, and Religious Guide Sheikh Ali Nasser. The speakers addressed the health, social, psychological, and legal aspects of this dangerous phenomenon, emphasizing the strict enforcement of the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Law No. 50 of 2017. Special reference was made to Articles 27, 28, and 29, which stipulate severe penalties, including imprisonment and the death penalty for drug traffickers and smugglers, with the aim of deterring such criminal activities.<br />The speakers also highlighted the vital role of families and religious values in eradicating drug abuse, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions).<br />The seminar was attended by several faculty members and students of the College of Law and concluded with an interactive discussion covering the legal, social, and health dimensions of the topic. The session was moderated by Dr. Ali Hamza Nimrud, Head of the Sustainability Unit at the College of Law.<br />
