The Department of Biomedical Engineering is pleased to announce the preparation and publication of comprehensive information sheets for the Jenway/Tenway Spectrophotometer, as part of our ongoing efforts to document and facilitate access to technical information on our laboratory equipment.
A spectrophotometer is an essential tool in analytical laboratories, and the new sheets summarize the key engineering and operational aspects related to it.
About the Spectrophotometer:
• Name: Spectrophotometer.
• Manufacturer: Jenway (Cole-Parmer) or Tenway (mostly British).
• Primary Function: The device is used to measure the absorption or transmittance of light (absorption/transmittance) of liquid samples at specific wavelengths. These measurements are critical for determining the concentrations of chemicals or biological substances in a sample, making it essential in medical research and analysis.
What does the new information sheet include?
The panels focus on the engineering and operational elements critical to ensuring accurate results and the device's durability:
1. Components and Accessories: Identifying important consumable and spare parts, such as cuvettes (measuring cells), calibration standards, spare lamps (halogen/deuterium lamps), and reagents.
2. Preventive Maintenance Mechanism: Highlighting the necessary maintenance schedule (daily/weekly/monthly/annually), starting with daily cleaning of the measuring cell area, through weekly inspection of the optical surfaces and monthly lamp intensity, to full calibration and annual replacement of deteriorated lamps by a qualified technician.
We invite all researchers and students to take advantage of these panels to ensure optimal use and accurate maintenance of the device, enhancing the quality of laboratory research and study results.
