College of Medicine at Al-Mustaqbal University Holds an Extensive Scientific Symposium on Programmatic Academic Accreditation for Medical Colleges in Iraq

Under the patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, and with the direct supervision of the Dean of the College of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Walaa Louay Al-Falluji, and in the presence of the Dean of the College of Medicine at the University of Babylon, Prof. Dr. Muhannad Al-Shallah, the College of Medicine at Al-Mustaqbal University organized an extensive scientific symposium entitled: “Programmatic Academic Accreditation for Medical Colleges: Standards and Implementation Mechanisms.” The symposium was presented by members of the National Council for Academic Accreditation of Medical Colleges in Iraq, namely Prof. Dr. Mohammed Abdul-Kadhim and Prof. Dr. Adel Hassan Al-Hindawi, faculty members at the College of Medicine / University of Babylon. The event commenced with the Iraqi national anthem followed by recitation of Al-Fatiha for the martyrs of Iraq. Afterwards, the Dean of the College of Medicine at Al-Mustaqbal University delivered the opening remarks, presenting an overview of the college’s infrastructure, lecture halls, laboratories, library, workflow, and academic system. He also highlighted the rigorous process of selecting qualified faculty members across medical and scientific specialties, as well as the college’s commitment to supporting academic title holders. The dean further discussed the cooperation agreements established by the college—most notably with the College of Medicine at the University of Babylon at the local level, the College of Medicine at Mansoura University in Egypt, and Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University in Turkey. He also referred to the supervisory involvement of international professors in the master’s program hosted from USM University (Malaysia). Additionally, he reviewed the progress made in constructing Al-Mustaqbal Teaching Hospital, which is expected to become a major turning point in medical services at the level of the province and beyond due to its advanced, world-class medical specifications. Following this, the speakers presented a comprehensive overview of the international standards and criteria used to evaluate medical programs, with emphasis on institutional and programmatic quality requirements and the role of medical colleges in elevating educational outcomes in alignment with global accreditation standards. The symposium covered several key topics, including: • Definition and importance of programmatic academic accreditation in developing medical colleges. • Review of academic quality standards and the requirements for achieving them. • Mechanisms for enhancing the educational environment and improving the competencies of students and faculty. • Steps for preparing academic programs based on the criteria set by specialized accreditation bodies. The event witnessed a broad attendance from students and faculty members of medical colleges in Babil Governorate, including the College of Medicine at Al-Mustaqbal University, the College of Medicine at the University of Babylon, and the College of Medicine at Hammurabi University. A rich discussion followed regarding strategies to implement accreditation standards, improve academic performance, and enhance the colleges’ national and international reputation. At the conclusion of the symposium, certificates of participation were distributed by the President of Al-Mustaqbal University. The Dean extended his gratitude to the speakers, guests, and all attendees, reaffirming the college’s commitment to continuing its scientific activities aimed at promoting a culture of quality and reinforcing the principles of academic accreditation in medical education—ultimately advancing the medical and health environment and achieving the highest levels of comprehensive academic excellence.
