Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Engineering, Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Shaker Majdi, the Department of Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Industries at the College of Engineering – Al-Mustaqbal University organized an awareness seminar on Monday, November 17, 2025, titled “Drug Abuse in Iraq: Reality, Control, and Treatment.” The event was attended by third-year students along with several faculty members. The seminar was delivered by Consultant Expert Engineer Alaa Hamza , who provided an analytical overview of the current state of drug spread in Iraq and the government and security efforts dedicated to combating it. He also discussed the legal framework governing narcotics and psychotropic substances according to Law No. (50) of 2017. In addition, he highlighted the main treatment and rehabilitation centers, the latest statistics on drug seizures, and the importance of the free hotline (178) in supporting security and awareness efforts. At the conclusion of the seminar, the speaker emphasized the importance of intensifying awareness campaigns among youth and strengthening cooperation between educational institutions and relevant authorities to curb the spread of drugs, as well as improving access to treatment and rehabilitation centers.
