On the occasion of the Iraqi Anti-Drug Week, the College of Nursing at Al-Mustaqbal University held today an extensive scientific symposium addressing the latest national and academic efforts to combat the scourge of drugs. The event was attended by the ministerial team, several college officials, and witnessed strong engagement from students and faculty members. The symposium lectures were delivered by: • Asst. Prof. Dr. Burhan Hadi Derb • Lecturer Haitham Kareem Mansour • Lecturer Abbas Abdulhussein Hassan The symposium included a detailed presentation on the concept of addiction, the most common types of drugs prevalent in the community, and their serious health impacts on the nervous system and other body systems. The speakers also discussed the social and psychological factors leading to substance abuse, as well as the role of media and educational institutions in promoting awareness and prevention. The symposium further addressed modern treatment strategies, including behavioral therapy, psychological support, pharmacological treatment, and rehabilitation programs, along with methods to reintegrate recovering individuals into society in a healthy and supportive environment. The event saw remarkable attendance from students who participated with discussions and questions that enriched the session and reflected a growing awareness of the importance of combating this phenomenon. The ministerial team praised the college’s efforts in organizing such scientific activities that contribute to spreading health awareness and enhancing the university's role in serving the community. The symposium concluded with a set of recommendations emphasizing the need to intensify awareness programs and strengthen partnerships between educational, health, and security institutions to reduce the spread of drugs and protect future generations.
