The Times Higher Education organization released the results of the second edition of the global Interdisciplinary Science Ranking 2026, which is based on a precise methodology that evaluates 11 indicators covering inputs, processes, and outputs. Al-Mustaqbal University topped all participating Iraqi universities, outperforming 28 public and private institutions, including the University of Technology, and the Universities of Anbar, Baghdad, Babylon, Al-Mustansiriyah, Al-Nahrain, and others. Globally, the university ranked within the 251–300 band out of 911 universities from 94 countries.
The Interdisciplinary Science Rankings (ISR) assess universities’ capacity to cultivate a multidisciplinary research environment by measuring industrial and financial support for interdisciplinary projects, institutional effectiveness in empowering research teams, availability of infrastructure and administrative support, and promotion policies that encourage cross-disciplinary work. The ranking also evaluates the volume and quality of interdisciplinary scientific publications, their cross-field impact, and the institution’s global academic reputation.
This achievement aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that Al-Mustaqbal University actively supports, particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) through fostering an innovation-driven academic environment, SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) by investing in research infrastructure and strengthening industrial partnerships, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by expanding national and international collaborations in interdisciplinary research.
With this accomplishment, Al-Mustaqbal University continues to strengthen its position as one of the leading academic institutions in Iraq and the region in scientific research and interdisciplinary innovation, reaffirming its status as the top university among Iraqi institutions in the Times Interdisciplinary Science Ranking 2026.
Al-Mustaqbal University is the first among private universities in Iraq.
