The College of Nursing organized an awareness lecture titled “Domestic Violence and Its Impact on the Social Fabric,” delivered by Asst. Lecturer Abbas Abdul-Hussein Hassan, a member of the Psychological Counseling Unit.
The lecturer addressed the seriousness of domestic violence as a social issue that extends beyond the household, negatively affecting the stability of society. He explained that various forms of violence—physical, psychological, and economic—turn the family environment from a place of safety into one filled with anxiety, tension, and chronic trauma.
He also emphasized that children are the most affected by such experiences, which can leave deep psychological and behavioral impacts that persist across generations, contributing to the continuation of violence cycles.
The lecture highlighted the need to understand the complex causes of domestic violence and to establish effective measures to reduce it while raising awareness to protect individuals.
This activity comes as part of ongoing efforts to promote psychological awareness and support healthy and safe family environments.
