As part of the Biomedical Engineering Department's commitment to bridging the gap between theory and practice, the department, under the supervision and coordination of Lecturer Zainab Sattar Jabbar, organized a field trip for fourth-year students to Al-Shaab Teaching Hospital in Baghdad.
To achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 4), the visit aimed to enable students to gain firsthand experience with the latest biomedical devices and equipment used in real clinical settings.
Highlights of the visit included:
• Advanced Medical Imaging Equipment: Students learned about the operation of various imaging devices, such as the advanced Angiography Unit and the CT Scanner from Siemens Healthineers. The principles of their operation and maintenance were explained.
• Intensive Care and Emergency Units: Students were introduced to the vital equipment used in patient monitoring, such as vital signs monitors, ventilators, electrocardiogram (ECG) machines, and ultrasound machines. • Practical Engineering Aspect: The hospital's engineering and technical staff provided a comprehensive explanation of the biomedical engineer's role in operating and calibrating these devices, as well as preventive and corrective maintenance procedures, enhancing their understanding of future responsibilities.
