The Department of Chemical Engineering and Oil Industries at the College of Engineering organized a practical scientific event titled “Soap and Shower Gel Manufacturing” for second-year students, under the supervision of the Head of the Department, Dr. Alaa Dhari, and with the participation of faculty members and a number of students. The event was in line with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, by enhancing students’ abilities in innovation and manufacturing, and by turning theoretical knowledge into practical applications in the field of light chemical industries. The event aimed to develop students’ practical skills by training them on the steps of producing personal care products, handling raw materials, adhering to safety standards, and understanding the scientific foundations of the chemical reactions used in these industries. The program included a theoretical session followed by hands-on practice in the laboratories, where students produced samples of soap and shower gel according to standard specifications, in addition to discussing results and evaluating product quality. Dr. Alaa Dhari emphasized the importance of integrating theoretical and practical aspects to prepare engineers capable of meeting labor market needs, highlighting the College of Engineering’s ongoing efforts to organize events that develop students’ skills and support the university’s commitment to achieving sustainable development.
