The Anesthesia Techniques Department at the College of Medical and Health Techniques, Al-Mustaqbal University organized a workshop titled “Research Methods: Getting Your Work Published”, held on December 23, 2025, presented by Dr. Mohammed Abu Al-Saud. The workshop aimed to empower students and researchers from the Anesthesia Techniques Department with the knowledge and skills necessary for academic publishing, covering the following key points: • Why publish? To add knowledge to your field, advance your career, and see your name in print. • Assessing your work: Does it contribute enough to existing knowledge? Is it of interest to others in the field? • Publishing options: Conference proceedings, book chapters, and journals. • Choosing the right journal: Consider topic coverage, peer review, target readership, prestige, submission-to-publication time, and highest possible impact. • Impact factor: Measures how often articles in a journal are cited in scientific literature. Examples of high-impact journals include Nature = 28, TREE = 12, J. Applied Ecology = 4.5. • Quality criteria: Well-planned and executed research, good presentation, significance and originality, alignment with journal scope, broad interest to readership. • Factors influencing citations: A well-written scientific “story”, author enthusiasm, and clarity of ideas. This workshop is part of the department’s ongoing efforts to enhance scientific research and develop publishing skills among students and early-career researchers, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals: Goal 4 – Quality Education, and aims to promote academic culture and knowledge production in medical and health sciences.
