Mental health is an essential part of overall human health, as it directly affects thinking, behavior, and the ability to cope with daily life demands. Mental health is not limited to the absence of psychological disorders but includes a state of emotional, psychological, and social balance that enables an individual to perform life roles efficiently. In this context, the role of nursing emerges as one of the most crucial components of the healthcare system in supporting and enhancing mental health in individuals and society. Nurses occupy a unique position due to their constant proximity to patients, allowing them to notice emotional and psychological changes that may accompany physical illness or various life pressures. Additionally, nursing contributes to providing psychological support through effective communication, good listening, and building a therapeutic relationship based on trust and respect, which helps the patient express their feelings and reduce anxiety and fear. Moreover, nurses play an essential role in health education by raising awareness among patients and their families about the importance of mental health, how to deal with stress, and positive coping methods. This, in turn, enhances treatment adherence and accelerates the healing process. Nurses also participate in the prevention of mental disorders by promoting healthy lifestyles and early intervention when psychological symptoms appear. Collaboration with the healthcare team, including doctors, psychologists, and social workers, is an essential part of nursing practice to ensure comprehensive and integrated care. In conclusion, paying attention to mental health is a fundamental aspect of nursing practice, as it contributes to improving the quality of life for patients, enhances the effectiveness of healthcare, and helps build a more balanced and psychologically stable society.
