As part of the university’s purposeful cultural and awareness activities, Asst. Lec. Saja Zuhair Hamed, a lecturer in the Department of English, presented a distinguished theatrical performance entitled “Phone Addiction”, with active participation from students of the department. Message and Objectives of the Performance The play addressed, in a realistic dramatic style, the issue of excessive smartphone use and its direct impact on social isolation and weakened real-life communication among individuals, in addition to its negative effects on the psychological and academic aspects of young people. The performance successfully conveyed a strong message emphasizing the importance of maintaining balance in the use of technology in today’s world. Artistic Creativity and Student Interaction The performance witnessed remarkable interaction from the audience, as the students’ acting—under the supervision of Asst. Lec. Saja Zuhair—skillfully portrayed everyday situations caused by digital addiction. This added both educational and artistic value, reflecting the vitality of extracurricular activities within the department. This work contributes to strengthening the university’s role in addressing contemporary societal issues through art and creativity, while also developing students’ skills in expression and dialogue in the English language.
