Fourth-year students in the Biomedical Engineering Department launched an awareness campaign titled "The Dangers of Drug Abuse," under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Iman Yasser Hussein and Engineer Zahraa Mohammed Kadhim.
Within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (Goal 3), the physical harms resulting from chronic substance abuse pose a serious threat to public health. For example, drug and alcohol abuse can cause severe brain damage, leading to nerve cell damage and cognitive impairment. The heart also suffers from stress, as high blood pressure increases the risk of heart attacks and strokes. The liver and kidneys, which act as the body's filters, are subjected to significant stress and may fail over time. The immune system may be weakened, making the body more susceptible to illnesses and infections. Proper nutrition is neglected due to loss of appetite, leading to deficiencies in essential vitamins and minerals. The risk of overdose is ever-present, potentially leading to sudden death, a real threat that demands awareness and caution. And let's not forget the ever-present danger of overdose and sudden death.
