This project involves the design and implementation of a digital medical device that monitors the electrical activity of the heart using electrocardiogram (ECG) technology. The system aims to extract the precise electrical signals generated by the heart with each beat and digitally process them to display the heart rate accurately and in real time.
It consists of:
• Medical electrodes (ECG electrodes): These are the three adhesive pieces (red, yellow, and green) that are attached to the user's body to detect the electrical signals.
• AD8232 module: The small red component mounted on the breadboard; it is a specialized operational amplifier (signal conditioner) that filters and amplifies the weak electrical signals coming from the heart and removes noise.
• Arduino Uno microcontroller: This receives the filtered signal and analyzes it programmatically to calculate the number of beats per minute.
• Display software (Arduino Serial Plotter): Figure (No. 14) shows how the real “heart wave” (ECG Trace) is displayed on the computer screen, allowing the contraction and relaxation of the heart muscle to be seen graphically.
