The Department of Biology organized an awareness workshop entitled “Safety in Chemical Laboratories” for first-year students, as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance laboratory awareness and reinforce the principles of occupational safety within the educational environment. The workshop was supervised and delivered by Lecturer Assistant (M.Sc.) Banin Maen Kareem from the Department of Biology, and was attended by the Department Coordinator, Lecturer Assistant (M.Sc.) Jaafar Hamid Jaafar. The workshop addressed key guidelines and instructions for the safe handling of chemical materials and laboratory equipment, highlighted potential hazards and methods of prevention, and introduced the safety procedures required to be followed in emergency situations. The workshop witnessed positive interaction from students, contributing to the enhancement of their basic knowledge of laboratory safety and raising awareness of the importance of adhering to approved instructions and procedures. This, in turn, ensures their safety and the safety of their peers, and enhances the quality of academic and practical laboratory work. The organization of this workshop reflects the Department of Biology’s commitment to preparing students with strong scientific and practical awareness, and equipping them with the ability to apply occupational safety principles throughout their academic and future professional careers.
